Tata had agreed to take over Ford’s plant in August.
It’ll get ownership of the property including the machinery and equipment.
The overall deal was finalised at Rs 725.70 crore.
Ford’s Sanand plant has a production capacity of 3 lakh cars per year.
Originally an ICE plant, the facility will likely be used for making EVs.
Since Ford quit its production operations in the country, Tata Motors’s electric vehicle (EV) division, Tata Electric Mobility, had moved to take over its Sanand plant in August 2022. Now, the two companies have finalised the date by which Tata will complete the full transaction and become the Sanand plant’s new owner, on January 10, 2023.
According to the agreement, Tata will acquire the entire property, including the land, facilities, machinery and equipment. The overall cost of the acquisition is Rs 725.70 crore, which Tata will have to pay by the agreed January 10 date.
Although originally an ICE car manufacturing facility, the Sanand plant is expected to be equipped for building electric vehicles part of Tata’s growing EV portfolio. Currently, the carmaker offers the Tata Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max in India. Later, it is also expected to introduce an EV based on the Punch micro SUV as well as the Curvv EV.
Tata hasn’t made an official announcement of which vehicles will be built at the facility. The Sanand plant currently has a production capacity of up to 3 lakh vehicles per year, scalable to 4.2 lakh cars annually.
